Standing Against Injustice: Rallying for the ‘Whole Truth Five’ and Civil Rights
The current situation is alarming: prisons are at capacity, violent offenders are being released early, and the police are warning of a potential breakdown in law and order. Despite this, nearly 200 individuals have been imprisoned for peaceful protests since 2019 in this country.
Among those jailed are friends from the movement ‘Whole Truth Five’, each receiving sentences of 4-5 years.
First, the judge gagged the protesters from speaking about the climate crisis in court; now the protestors are getting record jail time – literally for discussing a peaceful protest on a video call.
This situation is outrageous and sets a dangerous legal precedent that threatens civil rights and freedoms—rights and freedoms that the courts are meant to protect.
It’s crucial to support these five nonviolent protesters and others facing similar fates. To stand up against these injustices, Extinction Rebellion have co-organised a rally with Defend Our Juries, Just Stop Oil, and Fossil Free London. Bear witness to injustice, and sharpen your resolve to Upgrade Democracy.
