Levante’s Kickstarter launches Portable Solar Panels with Origami Inspiration
Unveiling a groundbreaking vision for clean energy, Levante, a Milan-based greentech startup, is about to ignite a revolutionary transformation with their origami-inspired, portable solar panels. Prepare to embark on a journey where sustainability meets ingenuity as Levante launches its Kickstarter campaign on June 13, 2023.
Driven by a passion for nature and a deep respect for the environment, Levante’s founders, Sara Plaga and Kim-Joar Myklebust, set out to challenge the conventional norms of fixed solar panel designs. Inspired by their adventures as avid sailors and campers, they sought to overcome the limitations of traditional solar panels, which often suffer from bulkiness, weight constraints, and logistical difficulties in transportation and installation.
Levante’s core mission centers around sustainability, with a long-term ambition to pave the way for a future of sustainable mobility fueled by renewable energy. Recognizing the ever-present need for energy in mobile contexts,
“Current solar panel solutions fail to meet the demand, as rigid panels are unwieldy and confined to permanent installations, while portable panels are flimsy and lack sufficient power output.”
Sara Plaga
To bridge this gap, Levante ingeniously draws inspiration from satellite technology and the modular versatility of Lego bricks. Their patented solar panels boast a compact and collapsible design, shrinking to over eight times their size when closed. Crafted entirely in Italy, each panel unfolds into a rigid structure capable of generating up to 500 watts of power—the highest on the market. When not in use or on the move, these panels fold away effortlessly.

Levante’s ingenious design offers not only easy installation but also a multitude of applications for generating clean energy. From sailboats and camper vans to RVs, overlanding rigs, off-grid properties, and tiny houses, the possibilities are limitless. These solar panels can be seamlessly connected to a vehicle’s solar charge controller, a power station, or even used at home with a micro-inverter.
Emphasizing the panel’s modular nature, Levante enables multiple panels to be connected and utilized simultaneously for enhanced power generation. Alternatively, for smaller energy needs such as day trips, users have the flexibility to detach individual modules from the panel, eliminating the need for additional purchases for different occasions.

In their quest to validate and refine their revolutionary solar panel, Levante has partnered with Dan and Kika, the influential duo behind the popular YouTube channel Sailing Uma. Having lived on an electric sailboat and traversed the globe for seven years, Dan and Kika provided invaluable insights and tested Levante’s prototypes, validating the pressing issue and the effectiveness of their origami mechanics. This collaboration continues as they work together to co-develop the final version of the product and support its launch.
Mark your calendars for June 13, 2023, as Levante’s Kickstarter campaign takes off. Early supporters will have the opportunity to acquire the first 10 units of the solar panel at a remarkable 50% discount. For more information, visit solar.levante.eco
