The Student Hotel

During a recent visit to Eindhoven to explore Dutch Design Week, we spent three great days staying at The Student Hotel which opened in the city earlier this year.

On arrival, unlike most budget hotels the check-in reception and lobby area were attractively designed, offering chill-out lounges, libraries, talk booths, ping pong tables, spaces for flexible co-working and a colourful 250-seat restaurant and bar area.  Judging by it’s popularity during our stay and also having had experience of the many tasty dishes on the menu, we can see why the hotel’s eatery is fast-becoming an Eindhoven foodie and coffee hot spot.

We stayed in a very spacious double room on the 23rd floor with a spectacular view over the city. Careful thought has gone into the the design of the rooms and the playful extras, and they still  provide divine comfort without looking overtly plush. Like the bedrooms, the bathrooms are spacious with modern wet-rooms.  Most importantly, the bed was super comfortable!

The 400-room hotel is conveniently located a short stroll from the main train and bus station and within a 10-minute walk to the city centre and the city attractions such as Eindhoven University of Technology, Frits Philips Music Centre and the Philips Stadium.  An ideal location to explore Eindhoven.

If you are planning to visit during Dutch Design Week 2018 (which we highly recommend) the Student Hotel is the place to stay as they also get involved with the week’s activities. This year they held many bedtalks, lectures, workshops and events throughout the hotel and gave up one room on the 24th floor for part of the exhibition launch: Contemplation Spaces by Justine Kontou which included 18 designers throughout the hotel like Studio Tijdmakers: DIAG/NOSE an artistic installation where you could test your sense of smell: DIAGNOSE.
