The Rebel Architects Faction staged a blockade of the Architecture Faculty at Cambridge University

In solidarity with the striking staff

At 7am this morning ( Tuesday 27 Feb) the gates of management headquarters – Senate House – were blockaded in solidarity with striking staff. The giant picket fence demonstrates the collective resolve of students in opposing the marketisation of education.

Rebel Architects Faction (RAF), said: “Architecture students fully support the strike and will not cross picket lines. Attacks on our staff are attacks on our education. Already many junior staff and students struggle to afford the basic necessities of a dignified life, suffer under an escalating mental health crisis and are exploited at every turn. Enough is enough: our futures are not for sale”.

Cambridge plays a unique role in this dispute, explicitly advocating slashing pensions to UUK so “competitor universities” cannot access investment financing. This callous attack on staff serves only to preserve the dominance of Oxbridge, deepen the financialisation of universities and must be stopped at all costs.

“The pressure is working: increasingly divided Vice-chancellors are now only united through their excessive pay. We reiterate that we hold University management exclusively responsible for this dispute and call for immediate negotiations – without preconditions – or we will escalate this dispute in every direction. We call on all students to mobilise in support of our staff and education”.

The University is a factory: shut it down!
