The Lee House is organized in a single volume ground-floor site featuring a radically horizontal façade. As a result, all internal spaces establish a strong relationship with the outside territory and the stunning garden.

Boundaries are blended throughout the residence, yet the concept is highlighted in the living room space where all windows are recessed, making the room an extension of the external space.

The impressively spacious veranda of the living room extends the interior to the pool deck and crosses to the other side of the lot.

This inside – outside spatial extension serves as a pleasing visual illusion as well as a climatic solution. The state of Sao Paulo, in the Brazilian southeast demonstrates internal temperatures that are elevated almost every day of the year. Thus, Studio MK27 developed a smart climatic strategy that combined the traditional comfort found in local vernacular architecture together with contemporary design solutions.

The living room features cross-ventilation which lowers internal temperature; all  internal spaces are protected by wooden muxarabis panels placed on sliding doors which filter the sun without removing the ventilation.

The program organization of the house is rather minimal and is defined by the exchange between solid and void territories.

Based on a simple pattern formed by wooden boxes that define the open and enclosed spaces, Studio MK27 formed  a series of rooms that present different levels of openness and privacy  as well as a set of astounding views when inside.

The front veranda is delineated by a foyer in the façade, revealing two wooden boxes divided by a spacious socializing area. The kitchen opens out to this common area and is contained in the box that also holds the bedroom.

The residence demonstrates an impressive and carefully selected material pallet where wood, white mortar and stone come together and form a sophisticated set of dwelling spaces.  The few materials that Studio MK27 used, along with the simple spatial organization create a minimalist yet comforting atmosphere that extends from the inner to the outer areas of the residence.
