The building on the avenue du Temple is located alongside of a wooded lanyard which follows the Vuachere River. Due to this peculiar and challenging site location, caught in-between the urban and natural environment, the architects designed a four-apartment building which responds to the challenging location. Yet, all four apartments are characterized by the existing setting, eventually creating a link between the natural and built.

The built volume responds to the inflection-point of the street by a movement in the façade; on the south side the building is carved and fragmented in reaction to the shape of the wooded lanyard and creates a series of large and well-oriented terraces which open up to the ambient light and the tree foliage. This clipped volume bears witness to the different scales present in the neighborhood and inserts the building in its natural context.

The building features a strikingly bold yet playful façade, designed by thick angular reinforced concrete slabs.  In between the slabs, the vertical rhythm of the wood finishing echoes the verticality of the trees of the wooded lanyard.

The interior spaces are defined by the simple yet efficient open plan design, the continuous series of wide openings and raw yet elegant concrete surfaces.

  1. It would be nice to have an image of the house in the surrounding environment so see how the architects blended the link between natural and built.
