Ground Floor in Sarrià – Barcelona

Designed by Isabel Lopez Vilalta & Asociados the ground floor is located in Sarrià Barcelona. Sandwiched between two ancient party walls the dwelling is compact, a challenge accentuated by the delicate conditions of the site.  The renovation undertaken by Isabel Lopez Vilalta & Asociados has tactfully compacted a flat suitable for two to live in comfortably.

The kitchen amenities have been totally hidden within the counter surfaces that line a singular wall in the living area. Due to the compact nature of the flat and its thin shape Isabel Lopez Vilalta & Asociados chose to combine the living and kitchen areas into a singular space utilising the connection between the two.

The bedroom area is contained in a series of old wooden panels, and doors, contrasting the nude colour pallet of the rest of the flat. Not separating the area totally from the rest of the flat Isabel Lopez Vilalta & Asociado have lowered the walls from the ceiling, allowing a flow between the two, whilst also containing the privacy a bedroom needs.

The amenities throughout are modern whilst being conscious of space. The bathroom is sleek yet boasts innovative white furnishings, a use of mirrors and light colours to give the illusion of an abundance of space. When the lights are off the top surfaces of the bathroom glow an calming green, exposing the natural patterns of the tiles.

At the rear of the flat is a courtyard, letting light flow into the building whilst still remaining private and contained. Over the foliage is a series of sliding canopies, sheltering and shading the exterior living areas.
